“Taiwan Kawaii School Girl”, a photobook by the photographer Yuki Aoyama, will be published on December 10th.
Yuki Aoyama is known for works such as “Schoolgirl Complex”, a photobook series shot based on the concept of voyeuristic fetish shots of high school schoolgirls, and “Flying Salaryman”, a collection of shots of Japanese salarymen in suits floating in midair. Other than working as a co-director on the movie “Recently, My Sister is Unusual”, Yuki Aoyama is expanding his activities, also participating in the collaborative project “Cintiq Creators Mash-up” directed by the filmmaker Kazuaki Seki.
His new work, “Taiwan Kawaii School Girl”, is a photobook featuring shots taken by Aoyama of Taiwanese high school schoolgirls. With Taiwan gripped by a boom in popularity of school uniforms and a “High School Girl Uniform Contest” that over 500 schools participated in attracting attention, this work featuring 16 girls captures Aoyama’s search for the sparkle of the “naïve and natural form” of high school girls in their uniforms.
Also, matched with the publication of the book, Aoyama’s photo exhibition “Taiwan Kawaii” will be held at Wada Garou in Yaesu, Tokyo. During the course of the exhibition, a talk event will be held on December 6th with illustrator Mel Kishida on the topic “Beautiful Girls” and the book will be launched early for sales the day of the event.
