SENTO GIRL –Daiichi Kinjoyu x Aris Mukaide – vol.2SENTO GIRL -第一金乗湯×アリスムカイデ- vol.2
Sento are public bathhouses which have been a part of Japanese culture for centuries and it may be worlds away from a lot of the latest Japanese culture usually featured on Tokyo Girl’s Update, but with the cooperation of TOKYO SENTO, we have begun our journey into the unique and comforting world of Sento as “SENTO GIRL” photograph project welcoming Kanako Hiramatsu as a model.
For the new series, next we have visited Daiichi Kinjoyu which is located in Itabashi-ku, welcoming Aris Mukaide as a model. This sento was renovated and reopened in March of 2013, with a more modern stylish looking design. In the vol.1 of the series, we focused on the entrance and outside of the bath, and here in vol.2 we feature more inside of the bath!
These photos are the result of a collaboration between model Aris Mukaide, photographer and Miss iD 2016 semifinalist mitfo, hair make-up artist hitomi, and stylist Yuduki Mori. We want to show you the renaissance of Sento through the collaboration of these wonderful creators , that’s what the SENTO GIRL series is aiming for!!
In the Sento, Mt. Fuji is often painted on the wall in the bath area. As a part of the renovation, the walls at Kinjoyu were re-painted in a more modern fashion by famous Sento painting artists for both the women’s and men’s baths, and it was well talked about among this sento’s users and Sento lovers from all over. The color contrast between Aris’ white outfit and blight blue Mt. Fuji painting is making the pictures beautiful, isn’t it?
The washing area is quite large compared to the average Sento. As Kinjoyu renewed the Sento itself in modern style, it seems they are making effort to be more comfortable public bath place not just for old people, but for younger people as well.
SENTO GIRL series with Aris Mukaide is a 3-part series and the last one vol.3 to be released on February 15th, there will be pictures of Aris relaxing in the bath! We hope you enjoy these pictures and stay tuned for the last part!
