Upon seeing the term “yami-kawaii”, you may be thinking things like, “What does the whole “yami” (sick) part mean?!?!? Do they have a terminal disease? Are they physically weak? What kind of idols would turn being ill into a concept? WTF Japan?” The “sickness” refers to how “yami-kawaii” girls might be cute but have kind of obscure or uncool and geeky interests, are very insecure about themselves and prone to negative thoughts. Similar to the eyepatch and bandage trend from a few years ago, the appeal is in how the girls appear to be weak and in need of care and protection. In the case of a “yami-kawaii” girl, her bandages are internal. A “yami-kawaii” girl is kind of like Rei Ayanami from Evangelion in some aspects. Also, they typically are kind of pale, whether it is natural or from adopting “byojaku gao” (sickly face) look.

Idols that have some of these qualities include: Ano (Yurumerumo!) and Shizuka Sugino (drop). Even though negative thinking is one of the symptoms of “yami-kawaii”, there is a strong sub-culture implication behind it so it excludes more famous negative idols like Rie Kitahara (NGT48) and Rino Sashihara (AKB48).

Similar to the endless battle raging below the surface within all “yami-kawaii” girls, the music of Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da is described as kind of chaotic and having elements of pop and rock colliding. Their 1st digital single “Neo Jealous✡Mero Chaos” will be released sometime in July and they will be making their stage debut on July 20th at Shibuya DESEO alongside groups like Oyasumi Hologram, Butterfly Net, and Liberty so look forward to it! Or don’t, because they don’t care. Wait! Where are you going? Never mind, go away!
