Serina is a university idol (SPH mellmuse) who, while very studious, is also a little mysterious. When something grabs her attention, she forgets herself and is so focused on that one thing, she loses sight of everything around her. Recently, she is addicted to “konnyaku”, and as you can see below, she can’t let go of it even for an instant.

By the way, konnyaku is made from konnyaku potato, and is a commonly eaten food in Japan that has a jelly-like or gummy sort of texture. Because it has almost no calories, it is also loved by many as a diet-food.

However, today Serina is on a mission, so she has come to the neighborhood of Kagurazaka. Having eaten so much konnyaku she is now sick of it, but still looking for other ways to love konnyaku, Serina did some research. What she found out was that konnyaku is not only eaten, but is also sold as a beauty product at a store in Kagurazaka. But what kind of place could it be?

The store is “Kagurazaka makanai Cosmetics Flagship Store”. Coming into view suddenly from a back street, the store’s exterior is elegant.

It would appear konnyaku is not all there is to this store. With a gorgeous Japanese-style interior and plenty of cosmetics, the fire of Serina’s curiosity has been ignited.

As soon as she enters, Serina asks one of the shopkeepers about the konnyaku product. It turns out the product makanai Cosmetics carries is Frozen Konnyaku face Sponge. Although it is actually supposed to be used for your face, the shopkeeper insists that Serina tries it on her hand first.

Although Serina wonders what effect the sponge could have when it is simply being gently rubbed on her skin, as soon as the shopkeeper is done her skin is shockingly smooth and soft. Owing to its Glucomannan content, this sponge removes small, light hairs and exfoliates the skin, allowing your skin to become very smooth. Of course Serina, with her konnyaku mania, is impressed. She realizes all over again the amazingness of konnyaku!

I’ll say it once more, but don’t get me wrong: makanai Cosmetics is not just a konnyaku store. Women that worked at an old gold leaf maker store in Kanazawa made the products to protect their own skin from dryness and high temperatures that resulted from a work environment that was hard on their skins. These products are unbeatable, with their natural ingredients and their ability to be both gentle on the skin and effective against skin damage.

At the Kagurazaka location, they also have monaka, donuts, and other snacks for sale. Taken in by the snacks that are both good for the body and the skin, Serina soon wants all of it.

makanai Cosmetics products are steadily becoming a hot topic both in Japan and abroad, with locations in Narita and Haneda airports, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and the Le Bon Marché department store in Paris.

And then on to the good news! After seeing the studious (yet slightly mysterious) Serina in their store, makanai Cosmetics has decided to give a present to TGU readers!

For starters, the product that Serina was most interested in: the Frozen Konnyaku face Sponge! It comes with a special sponge case (goodnight bowl). If you drain off the water from the sponge and save it in the refrigerator, the sponge can be preserved for about one month!

Next, the extremely popular product made from an exquisite recipe: makanai’s signature hand cream! Even though it’s moist, it can be easily spread onto the hand like water and isn’t sticky at all, so it feels really great! For those who live in especially dry regions, you can surely appreciate this product. The subtle and gentle yuzu fragrance hand cream is what they will be giving away.

Lastly, 12 Transformation Rabbit oil blotting paper. Although those abroad may not be familiar with the product, it is used a lot by Japanese girls. It is a piece of paper used to get oil off of the face without ruining your makeup. The interesting thing about this paper is, as the paper absorbs oil, the rabbit watermark pattern disappears and transforms into a moving bunny! There are 12 different transformation patterns, but the bunny-hopping Makanai rabbit only appears 1/100 of the time! If you find it, it’s really lucky!
