Band “5572320”

5572320, the much talked about and mysterious masked junior high school band is still news to many. We have coverage of guerilla live performance where their true identity as idol group Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku was revealed.

At the live performance it was also revealed that 5572320 is the numerical reading of “coconut sable” in Japanese, and the band was formed to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary. It’s been a best seller with packaging that hadn’t changed for 50 years, but suddenly decided to try a new image change, and in the same vein came the story of how Ebichu decided to challenge doing something different than your average idol fare, rock band 5572320.

So we couldn’t help but wonder how younger people feel about Coconut Sable. We asked several high school students and younger women in their teens and twenties what they thought, and many responded with answers such as: “When I was little, I used to eat them a lot with my grandma!” “I miss them!” or “I love them a lot!” Many younger people confirmed that, “When I go to grandma’s house, it’s always there.”

The original package looks like this. It has a bit of a retro feel, right?

So what about the taste? Tokyo Rad Girl Saaya gave them a try. She suddenly shows her face. 5572320 kept their faces hidden like this until now, right? (laugh) Moving on, Saaya is also part of the “I used to eat it often at my grandma’s house” camp. “It’s been a while since I’ve had these, but the taste is familiar and good! They’re not too sweet!” said Saaya as she cheerfully nibbled on a few. Since it started selling 50 years ago, neither the ingredients nor factory making process has changed much.

If you look at them closely one side is sugar coated, and it looks high quality. As for the coconut part, there’s not much of it. There’s a light coconut smell and flavor to them.

Because of this campaign, it appears the sale of Coconut Sable has risen a lot. There are many instances of people rediscovering the charm of them after not eating them for so long. This author is one! I hadn’t eaten them recently, but after eating them after so long there’s no doubt about how good they are! As the original packaging is plainer, there’s not much time left to get our hands on this limited edition release… What a shame!

Why not try some Coconut Sable, which has left its mark on the DNA of Japanese people?! We’re giving away rare, special limited edition packs that you won’t be able to get your hands on anywhere else, so don’t wait to apply! The give away campaign will be closed 21:00 on April 10th (JST!). Don’t miss this opportunity!
