Exclusive Interview with Country Girls : “I’m Sorry for Being So Adorable!”

– Is this your first time shooting a MV?
−森戸さんはMV撮影は今回が初めてですか？

– How do you feel about filming your first MV?
−初めてのMV撮影はいかがですか？

Morito: Um… Well I’m really nervous, because there’s a lot of different things to shoot like the situation and the setting… and changing costumes. I’m nervous about everything. I feel more nervous about the singing scenes than the dancing ones. The up close scenes also make me nervous.
えっと、すごい緊張してて、シチュエーションというかセッティングとかも色々変えて撮影をするので……衣装も変わったりして。全部緊張します。踊ってるシーンよりも歌ってるとこを撮るほうが緊張します。アップシーンも緊張します。

Morito: Making different facial expressions was difficult. I’d be smiling and then they’d say, “Now change expressions,” and I wasn’t really sure what to do. Expressions where I’m looking bothered and things like that. Like, “Give a bit of a grin”… (laughs) So because of that I’ve been nervous.
表情を変えたりするのが難しかったです。笑ってるときに「ちょっと表情変えて」って言われると、どうやったらいいかわからなくてちょっと。困ってる表情とか。「ちょっと微笑んで」とかも……（笑）。それでいつも緊張しちゃいました。

– Do you think it’s been going well so far?
−今のところは上手くできていますか？

Morito: I think so, up until now. Or at least about half… (laughs)
はい、今のところは。半分くらいは……（笑）。

– What are the highlights of the MV?
−MVの見どころを教えてください。

Morito: I was especially nervous during the singing scenes of “Koi Dorobo”, to the point where my face looked so nervous the staff kept saying, “Relax!” (laugh) I could even tell myself… So those probably watching the finished MV might be able to tell, too. (laughs)
「恋泥棒」の時のリップシーンですごく緊張してしまって、スタッフの方に「リラックスして！」すっごい言われるくらい顔が緊張していたみたいで（笑）。それが自分でも分かるくらいだったんですけど……完成したMVを観られた」方は、緊張してるなって思うかもしれないです（笑）。

– Speaking of the debut song’s title, “Itooshikutte Gomen ne”, what’s something that you adore?
−今回のデビュー曲のタイトル「愛おしくってごめんね」にちなんで、森戸さんにとって愛おしいものは？

Morito: Something I adore? Something I adore… Something I adore… Umm, does it have to be a thing? Can it be a person I adore? I really like Haruna Iikubo from Morning Musume’s 15, and I’d really love to meet her now.
愛おしいものですか？　愛おしいもの……愛おしいもの……う〜ん、物ですか？　愛おしい人でもいいですか？　私の好きな人が、モーニング娘。15の飯窪春菜さんなんですけど、今会いたいです。

– Like if Haruna were here for the filming?
−撮影も飯窪さんがいれば！

Morito: Yes! But I’d get too nervous. But I’d like to meet her now. (laughs)
はい！　でも余計緊張しちゃいます。今会いたい（笑）。

– Please give us a message for overseas fans of Country Girls.
−海外のファンにむけて、メッセージをお願いします。

Morito: Okay! I’ll do my best so that we can have a concert overseas soon, so please give me your support.
はい！　早く海外でもライブが出来るように精一杯頑張っていくので、応援よろしくお願いします。

– Is there a country you would like to visit?
−行ってみたい国はありますか？

Morito: The U.S. The U.S. seems so trendy…! (laughs) I want to see many different cities. I’ve never been before.
アメリカです。アメリカはなんか流行がすごそう……（笑）！　街とか色々観てみたいです。行ったことないので。

– I believe this was your first time shooting a MV, so were you nervous?
−MV撮影は今回初めてだと思うのですが、緊張しますか？

Shimamura: It was more fun than I thought it would be. There’s a scene where everyone is pretty carefree, which was a lot of fun to shoot. On the other hand, I get pretty nervous during picture shoots… like shaking in my boots.
思ったより楽しいです。結構メンバーとはしゃいだりするシーンがあって、そういうのの撮影がすごく楽しくて。逆に写真撮影の方が緊張しちゃいました……ガチガチで。

– What are the highlights of the MV?
−MVの見どころはどんなところですか？

Shimamura: Well, I’d like everyone to watch us all being lively and having fun in “Koid Dorobo”. And there’s hand movements for the “Gomenne dance” chorus part of “Itooshikute Gomen ne”, so I would like everyone to dance along with us.
そうですね、「恋泥棒」はみんなでわちゃわちゃしてる楽しい感じを見て頂きたいです。あと「愛おしくってごめんね」は、サビのこのフリ、ごめんねダンス（おでこに手を当てる仕草）に注目して欲しいです。一緒に踊って欲しいです。

– Your costumes are very cute. Could you tell us any special points about them?
−今回の衣装、すごくかわいいと思います。お気に入りポイントなどありますか？

Shimamura: Miyabi Natsuyaki from Berryz Kobo picked out my hair accessory with me. She even came to the “Koi Dorobo” shoot and picked out my outfit as well as my hair accessory, and they’re all really cute.
Berryz工房の夏焼雅さんが一緒に、髪飾りとか決めてくださったんです。「恋泥棒」の撮影の時も来てくださって、髪飾りとか服も決めて下さったみたいで、ホントに全部かわいいんですよ！

– Speaking of the debut song’s title, “Itooshikutte Gomen ne”, what’s something that you adore?
−今回のデビュー曲のタイトル「愛おしくってごめんね」にちなんで、島村さんにとって愛おしいものは？

Shimamura: Natsuyaki… Miyabi Natsuyaki. Like before, or when there’s a lot going on, she’s always right by my side and comforting me. She’s so sweet; I really love her.
夏焼さん……夏焼雅さんです。さっきもちょっと私が、なんか色々あった時なんかも、ずっとそばに居てくれて慰めてくれたりして。優しくて、ほんっとに大好きなんです。

– Please give us a message for overseas fans of Country Girls.
−海外のファンの方にメッセージをお願いします。

Shimamura: Up until now we’ve only been active in Japan, but Satoda changed our name to Country Girls instead of Country Musume。 so that we could even use it abroad, and because there’s that kind of meaning behind the name change, we want to try our best to go abroad many times and hold concerts, so please support us.
まだ今は日本の中だけで活動でやらせて頂いていてるんですけれど、里田さんが「カントリー娘。」を「カントリー・ガールズ」に改名したように、海外に行っても通用するように、という意味で改名してくださったので、海外にもたくさん行ってライブ出来るように頑張りますので、宜しくお願いします。

– Is there a country you would like to visit?
−行ってみたい国はありますか？

Shimamura: I’m 1/8th Italian. So I’d like to visit Italy someday.
私、イタリアの血が8分の１入っているんです。だから、できれば行ってみたいです。

– I believe this was your first time shooting a MV, so how did you feel about it?
−MV撮影は初めてだったと思うのですが、いかがでしたか？

Ozeki: It was my first! I was really nervous. There’s scenes were we’re singing solo, right? I had no idea what kind of expression or pose to make. Manaka was filmed first, so I watched what she did, and I did my best to learn as much as I could right then. (laugh) But I didn’t have much time to study, so I was like I’ve just got to go out there and do it. (laugh) I just went out there and did whatever. They told me, “Be energetic!” so thought maybe it was okay just to go out there and be energetic like that? It just kind of did it like that, without anything really made-up.
初めてです！　緊張しました、本当に。ソロで歌うシーンとかあるじゃないですか。どういう顔で、どういうポーズでやればいいとか全く分からなくて。まず愛香ちゃんが撮影したんですけど、その様子を見て、自分も色々瞬間的に学んで頑張りました（笑）。でも勉強する時間はそんなに無かったので、もうとりあえずやろうって感じで（笑）。はっちゃけてやりました。「元気に！」って言われたので、そのままを素で行けばまぁ元気で行けるかな？　って思ってやったので、そんなに作らずにできたと思います。

– What are the highlights of the MV?
−MVの見どころはどんなところでしょう？

Ozeki: The energy. Uta-chan and everyone was so cute, and it was a really warm and happy feeling, but in comparison when I filmed my singing scene I was really energetic, and I’d like everyone to see it.
元気、ってところですね。うたちゃんとかはかわいくてほんわかな感じなんですけど、私は反対に、元気な感じのリップシーンを撮っているので、見て欲しいです。

– Could you tell us any special points about your costume?
−衣装のお気に入りポイントはありますか？

Ozeki: With the polka dots, it was like everyone was united and really gave off that vibe of unity. But with the uniform, it was the first time everyone was wearing matching costumes! It was our first time having something tailor made for us, and not just coordinating with one another! I was really glad when I heard we were going to match. It really makes us feel like a group, don’t you think?! It was like a dream. I was cheerful when were trying them on. (laughs)
水玉の方は、みんな統一されていて統一感がありますよね。でも制服のほうは、初めてみんなでお揃いの衣装なんですよ！　コーディネートじゃなくて、作って頂いたのが初めてなんです！　お揃いっていうの聞いたときはすごく嬉しくって。なんかグループって感じするじゃないですか！？　夢だったんで。試着の時はすごいウキウキしてました（笑）。

– Speaking of the debut song’s title, “Itooshikutte Gomen ne”, what’s something that you adore?
−ちなみに今回のデビュー曲のタイトル「愛おしくってごめんね」にちなんで、小関さんにとって愛おしいものは？

Ozeki: I have two cats at home, and they are just so cute, and they always make me feel so so so much better! When I come home tired from school or work and they “meow” at me, it’s just so cute! They’re all like, “Meoooow!”
家で猫を二匹飼っているんですけど、もう、ほんっっとにかわいくて、ほんっっっとに癒やされてて！　学校とか仕事とかで疲れて帰ってきた時も「ニャン」って言ってくれて、ほんっとにかわいいいんですよ！　「ニャ〜〜ン」って！

– What are their names, by the way?
−ちなみに名前は？

Ozeki: Ryuu and Mei. I’m always with Ryuu. When I sleep or when I’m in the bathroom, or when I’m taking a bath. It’s like he wants to drink the bath water or something? He doesn’t dislike hot things like most cats. He’ll drink the hot water in the bath. I want to believe that he’s there for me instead of the hot water, but… But we really do sleep together. He’ll sleep right beside me. He’s smart.
リュウくんとメイくん。リュウくんとはいつも一緒なんですよね。寝るときもトイレもお風呂も。なんか、お風呂のお水を飲みたいみたいですよ？　猫舌じゃないんですよ。お風呂のお湯を飲んじゃうんです。お湯のためにというより私のために来てくれてると信じてますけど……。でも寝るときは本当にいつも一緒です！　隣で寝てくれるんですよ。真面目です。

– A message for overseas fans of Country Girls, please!
−海外の方にメッセージをお願いします！

Ozeki: We changed our name from Country Musume to Country Girls so it would be more international, so we could make progress not only in Japan, but abroad as well! (laugh) We have lots of hand movements that will make you feel like dancing with us, so please watch the finished MV. Thank you!
