The rainy season is over and the hot humid days of summer have come to Tokyo, but things are about to get even hotter! Temperatures in Odaiba will skyrocket as over 150 idol groups take the stage during the first weekend of August. This is on top of Fuji TV’s “2014 Odaiba New World” event that runs from July 19th until August 31st.

Idol Koushien opens its special 1st Anniversary event at Zepp Diver City Tokyo at 1:00pm on August 1st with over 28 groups scheduled to perform. For those who arrive in Odaiba early that day, SUPER☆GIRLS, GEM, and Cheeky Parade will be at Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi Live” at 11:00am and Idoling!!! will have a mini-live at 11:30am on the Shin-Tairiku My Navi Stage. However, those involve extra fees, as they are separate events. There is also another Idol Koushien event scheduled for August 4th at Shinjuku ReNY.

The 5th Tokyo Idol Festival promises to be the biggest ever with 136 groups participating on 7 stages spread out over the Odaiba and Aomi area. In addition to the 7 stages, there will also be the Grand Market where you can buy goods and the Greeting Area for handshake events. This year marks the first time that tickets will be available to be purchased from overseas via Rakuten. Festivities kick off at the Smile Garden stage at 9:35am on August 2 with S/mileage and come to an end with the “Idol Summer Jamboree: Encore at 8:50pm on August 3.

Check the schedule and the map on the site when trying to figure out what groups you want to see because some of the stages are quite far from each other and it will be crowded! Make sure to wear some comfortable shoes and stay hydrated because it will be hot too!
