In May of 2010 S/mileage made their major label debut with their single “Yumemiru Fifteen”. Then in October of 2011, S/mileage sub-members Kana Nakanishi, Akari Takeuchi, Rina Katsuta, and Meimi Tamura became official members of the group, and S/mileage had their massively successful first solo concert at the Nippon Budokan. In December of 2014, with the arrival of three new members, Maho Aikawa, Rikako Sasaki, and Mizuki Murota, the group changed their name to ANGERME. During their November 29, 2015 performance at the Nippon Budokan, first generation member Kanon Fukuda graduated, new member, Moe Kamikokuryo, joining the group on November 11th.

Although Meimi Tamura has plans to graduate at their next Nippon Budokan performance on May 30th, ANGERME will release their fourth single “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku”/”Itoshima Distance”/”Koi nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru” on April 27th. Since this will be their last single with all nine members, Tokyo Girls’ Update sat down with all of them to ask them about the music video shoot for “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku”.

Rikako Sasaki/佐々木莉佳子さん

-First I would like to ask about the new single, can you tell us about the third song “Koi Nara Tokkuni Hajimatteru”?

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-15

Rikako: It’s the first song written and composed by Tsunku♂-san for ANGERME and it’s the first one for the 3rd generation members and Moe Kamikokuryo-chan. It’s very mature and the first line by Tamura-san has so much impact. Tamura-san is good at acting, so she really puts her emotions in to it and her expression really emphasizes the line well so I hope the fans would pay attention to it. I also personally like the dance moves during the hook.

-Did you actually meet or talk to Tsunku♂-san during the recording?

Rikako: Not really, but when I heard he made the song for us, I was really happy. It was our first time and we’ve all been listening to his music since forever.

-Out of the three songs, which one would you recommend the most?

Rikako: All of them are really good but in the song “Itoshima Distance”, Kamiko-chan (Moe Kamikokuryo) and the 3rd generation members are the main vocals. However, I think “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku” is very unique. I think it’s my first time since I have joined ANGERME that we get to rap and it’s not the kind of music we used to have as S/mileage. The song itself is cool enough but by adding the rap part, it becomes even more cool so I think you can see a cool ANGERME. The dance is great too. In the beginning there’s a part where all of us walk to the front. Ayaka Wada-san looks like a model.

-You all look very cool.

Rikako: I’ll be glad if the audience can sing “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku” part together with us and during the hook there’s a part where we go up and down and it would be great if everybody could dance with us.

-Next we would like to ask about the tour. Is there anything that has changed since the last tour?

Rikako: This tour will be the last tour as ANGERME with Meimi Tamura-san as a member. It’s sad that she is leaving but I hope we can make many memories as possible during the tour. On the last tour, Moe Kamikokuryou-chan wasn’t with us so we weren’t sempai yet.

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-16

-You were the youngest ones.

Rikako: Yes but on this tour Moe Kamikokuryou-chan has joined us so we are doing it with new form. We aren’t the best as MC and other things yet, but we are hoping we can show Moe Kamikokuryou-chan what we have learned from Wada-san and Fukuda-san.

-Since Moe-chan has joined the group you’re no longer the youngest kouhai. Has anything changed?

Rikako: There’s not anything I’m intentionally doing, but I do tell her if there is anything I feel isn’t right.

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-10

-Do you tell her pretty strictly?

Rikako: Yes, but it’s not my first time being a sempai since I had many kouhai when I was a Hello! Project trainee member, so teaching isn’t a problem, but it’s my first time being a sempai belonging to a group so the environment is very different. I know it will be difficult but I want to do my best at it.

-As we talked earlier, it will be Tamura-san’s graduation on the tour final. do you have anything to say to her?

Rikako: Tamura-san taught me many things. from when the 3rd generation members had joined until today, she always paid attention to all of us and taught us. I want to keep on doing my best using what I learned from her, but we’ve only gone out twice together during our private time.

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-12

-Have you gone out more with the other members?

Rikako: Not exactly, I just want to go more with Tamura-san. I want to make more memories during our private time before her graduation!

-What kinds of memories do you have with her after going out with her two times?

Rikako: We went to the park and played on the swings and took videos on the swings. We also went to see the illuminations (Christmas lights)and ate dinner together.

-It’s like a date.(laugh) Is Tamura-san nice?

Rikako: She’s nice but she has a switch. During her private time she’s very cute and girly but when it comes to work, she’s becomes very serious; she looks completely different. Even if she was playing around right before lessons, she turns on her switch. I think it’s important to concentrate on something when you need too so I want to be like her.

-You’ll be starting your last year of junior high school in April, are there any things you want to do while you’re still a junior high school student?

Rikako: I want to study. Of course what we learn in the first and second year is important, but I heard that I can still keep up if I study hard in the third. I will be taking the entrance exams for high school and pass them.

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-14
-You’ll be taking the entrance exams?

Rikako: Yes, but I’m kind of worried. I’m not that good at studying.

-I hope you can do well in your studying and entrance exam. Finally, can you give us a message for your fans overseas?

Rikako: I’ve been saying this for a long time, but I really want to do a concert outside of Japan. ANGERME is a made up name combining the words “ange” and “larme” from French so, I want to do a concert in France. But i want to do other concerts outside japan, not just in France so even more people in the world can know about ANGERME,.

tsugi-tsugi-angerme-rikako-sasaki-21

-There are many Hello! Project fans in France.

Rikako: Really?

-I think there are many fans of ANGERME too so I hope you can do a concert in Paris someday.

Rikako : I would love to. ℃-ute have done many concerts there.

-℃-ute has done a concert in Paris twice. Berryz Kobo did a concert there too, and the fans were crying when they had the handshake event. They were finally able to meet.

Rikako: We can’t meet fans when we’re only in Japan.

-I think there are many ANGERME fans that feel the same way too. So I hope you can make your dream come true.

Rikako: We’ll do our best!
