Exclusive Interview with ANGERME : Moe Kamikokuryo

In May of 2010 S/mileage made their major debut with their single “Yumemiru Fifteen”. Then in October of 2011, S/mileage sub-members Kana Nakanishi, Akari Takeuchi, Rina Katsuta, and Meimi Tamura became official members of the group, and S/mileage had their massively successful first solo concert at the Nippon Budokan. In December of 2014, with the arrival of three new members, Maho Aikawa, Rikako Sasaki, and Mizuki Murota, the group changed their name to ANGERME. During their November 29, 2015 performance at the Nippon Budokan, first generation member Kanon Fukuda graduated, new member, Moe Kamikokuryo, joining the group on November 11th.
2010年5月にシングル「夢見る15歳」で「スマイレージ」としてメジャーデビュー。2011年10月にはサブメンバーだった中西香菜、竹内朱莉、勝田里奈、田村芽実が正規メンバーに昇格し、2014年には武道館単独ライブを成功させた。2014年12月には、相川茉穂、佐々木莉香子、室田瑞希の3人を新たに向かえ、グループ名を「アンジュルム」に改名。2015年11月の日本武道館公演を持って１期生メンバー福田花音が卒業し、同時期に新メンバー上國料萌衣が加入。

Although Meimi Tamura has plans to graduate at their next Nippon Budokan performance on May 30th, ANGERME will release their fourth single “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku”/”Itoshima Distance”/”Koi nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru” on April 27th. Since this will be their last single with all nine members, Tokyo Girls’ Update sat down with all of them to ask them about the music video shoot for “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku”.
今年5月30日の武道館公演で田村芽実の卒業が決まっているなか、4thシングル「次々続々／糸島Distance／恋ならとっくに始まってる」が4月27日にリリース予定。現9名では最後のシングルとなる。Tokyo Girls’ Updateは今回のシングルの表題曲でもある「次々続々」のMV撮影現場にお伺いし、メンバー全員にインタビューをさせて頂きました。

-We got to interview all of you of ANGERME for your last single, but it is our first time interviewing Moe Kamikokuryo. Nice to meet you.
実は前回のシングルの時もアンジュルムの皆さんにインタビューを皆さんにさせて頂いたんですけれども、今回は上國料さんは初めてということで、宜しくお願いします。

-I think it was not only your first time in a single and a concert tour, but also your first time filming a MV so we would like to ask a few questions about these topics. First of all about the single, tell us about the third song “Koi Nara Tokkuni Hajimatteru”. What kind of song is it, and tell us if you have any special points we should focus on when listening to the song.
今回は新曲やツアーのことに加え、上國料さんにとっては今回が初めてのMV撮影だと思うので、その辺りについてお伺いしたいと思います。まずは新曲についてなんですけど、上國料さんには三曲目の「恋ならとっくに始まってる」についてお話をお聞きさせて下さい。どんな曲なのかというのと、上國料さんの個人的な聞きどころなどがあったら教えて頂けますでしょうか。

Moe: “Koi Nara Tokkuni Hajimatteru” is a song with Wada-san and Tamura-san singing as the main vocals. It’s also a song created by Tsunku♂-san. I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to sing the first ANGERME song created by Tsunku♂-san. I want listeners to focus on the first line by Tamura-san.
上國料：はい。「恋ならとっくに始まってる」は、和田さんと田村さんがメインになっているんですよ。しかも、つんく♂さんの曲なんです。アンジュルム初のつんく♂さんの曲で私も歌える、っていうのはすごく嬉しいことだと思います。聞きどころは田村さんの最初のセリフですね。

-The other members have told us that too. It really must be very important.
みなさんやっぱりそこが聞きどころっておっしゃるんですけど、やっぱりそこが聞きどころなんですね（笑）。

Moe: Yes. The line is just perfect to get into the whole world of the song. She’s done it perfectly.
上國料：はい、セリフがもう……一気に世界観に入れるというか･･･上手だなって思います。

-Are there any points you put effort into?
上國料さん的に頑張ったよ、っというところはあります？

Moe: The dance where we move from side to side is pretty complex, it depends on who’s singing. So I had a hard time first since I got the left and right mixed up.
上國料：ダンスはあの、結構右左に動くのが複雑で……歌う人によって違うんですよ。だから右と左がごっちゃになっちゃって覚えるのが大変でした。

-That does sound confusing. so, we have introduced the song “Koi Nara Tokkuni Hajimatteru “, including the other 2 songs, which one would you recommend most?
なるほどですね。では「恋ならとっくに始まってる」についてご紹介いただいたんですけど、もし他の二つの曲も含めて、個人的に今回のシングル一押しはこれだ、というところがあれば教えて下さい。

Moe: “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku” has some rap parts and it’s a really cool song. I think it also really expresses the character of ANGERME well. The other two songs are cool too, but this song has a different coolness to it.
上國料：「次々続々」はラップも入ってすごくかっこいい曲になっていてアンジュルムらしいです。「糸島distance」と「恋ならとっくに始まってる」もかっこいいんですけど、なんか今までのアンジュルムと違うかっこよさ。１番アンジュルムらしいのは「次々続々」かなって思います。

Moe: I didn’t have any rap parts. But sempais’ raps are really cool.
上國料：あ、私は歌ってないんです。歌ってないんですけど、先輩たちのラップはかっこいいです。

-Thank you. Next we would like to ask you about your first concert tour. How is it going?
ありがとうございます。今度はツアーについてお伺いしたいんですけど、初ツアー、いかがですか？

Moe: Each concert is really fun and I don’t really feel tired afterwards. That’s how fun it is. But sometimes I get stuck and can’t get the right words out during the MC time…. But the fans give me courage. Thanks to them, I’m able to say what I want to say.
上國料：えっと、もう毎回毎回、一公演一公演がすごい楽しくて、疲れたって思うことがあんまりないんですよ。そのぐらい楽しいです。ＭＣとかで言葉が詰まって言いたいこと言えなくなってしまったりもするんですけど……。だけど、ファンのみなさんが「がんばれ！」って言ってくれて、あったかいなって思います。おかげで、伝えたいことをちゃんと言えるようになりました。

-Speaking of the tour, on the tour final, Tamura-san will be graduating. since it hasn’t been long since you have joined the group, you may not have as many memories with her like the other members but can you give us some words for Tamura-san?
なるほど、それはよかったです。ところで、今回ツアーのファイナルで田村さんがご卒業になるということなんですが、上國料さんはまだ加入して日が浅いので短い期間の想い出になるかと思いますが、田村さんに贈る言葉を一言頂けますか？

Moe : Tamura-san was the sempai that scolded me the most, or rather gave me lots of advice, so I’m really thankful to her. She even stayed with me after the lessons were finished when I couldn’t memorize the dance moves.
上國料：田村さんにはたくさん叱って頂いたというか、アドバイスを一番もらった先輩なので、すごく感謝しています。私が振りを覚えられなかったときも、ほんとは帰れる時間なのに、残って一緒に練習してくれたんです。

Moe: Yes, she’s really nice. A sempai that was strict but kind will be　graduating so I’m a bit worried about my future, but I want to be like　Tamura-san.
上國料：すごく優しいです。でも、優しいながらも厳しく指導してくれる先輩が卒業されるので、「私これからどうしようかな」っていう気持ちもありますが私も田村さんみたいになりたいって思ってます。

―I think you had many first experiences lately. how was the MV filming?
あと、上國料さんは今回色んなことが初めてだと思うので、その辺りもお話を聞きたいのですが、MV撮影はどうでしたか？

Moe: When you watch a MV, it’s only about 5 minutes long, so I didn’t really know that people spend a lot of time dancing and filming over and over again for it. After my first experience I got to know how much effort you need for it and how long it takes.
上國料：MVって、映像を見ると5分とかじゃないですか。なのに何十回もダンスをやって、沢山の時間を使って作り上げてる、ってあんまりよく知らなくて。初めて撮影してみて、それが分かりました。こんなに長かったんだ、こんなにきつかったんだ、って。

Moe: But, because I had this experience now, I know how a great piece of work is created with the efforts of so many people.
上國料：でもそのおかげで、いいものが完成するというか、大変なんだなっていう風に実感しました。

-You must be excited to see the complete version. Are there any points to focus on for the MV for “Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku”?
では出来上がりが楽しみですね。ちなみに「次々続々」のMVの見どころはどこですか？

Moe: The moves are divided up among the members, but they are simple so it would be nice if fans could dance along with us.
上國料：振りが分かれてるんですよ、みんな。しかもこの振りはやりやすいので、ファンの方にも一緒に踊って欲しいなって思います。

-I think you started from the center position. Were you nervous?
ちなみに上國料さんは最初センター的なポジションで入られると思うんですが、緊張しましたか？

Moe: I was nervous. It was like I was the leader of the group. I’m not the biggest or tallest so I really need to stand out. I tried to dance as dynamically as possible.
上國料：緊張しました。なんか引き連れてる感じじゃないですか。私、身体も小さいし、背もかなり低いので、だけど目立たないといけないじゃないですか。だからそういう気持ちも込めて、大きく踊るように意識しました。

-What kind of image did you have of ANGERME before joining the group and how was it after actually joining the group?
ありがとうございます。ちなみに、アンジュルムっていうグループは入る前はどういうイメージで、実際入ってみてどうだったか、というのをお伺いしたいんですけど。

Moe: I had an image the they were bright, fun, and didn’t really mind age differences. After joining, I found out that at appropriate times, they can be strict but overall a lot more noisy and fun than I expected. (laugh)
上國料：明るい楽しい、上下があんまり厳しくない、っていうイメージでした。実際に入ってみて思ったのは、厳しいところは厳しいんですけど、明るさ、にぎやかさ、っていうのはむしろ思ってた以上でした（笑）。

-That’s how I felt too when I met them.
そうですよね。僕もお会いした時そう思いました。

Moe: It’s really fun in the dressing room. They can be strict at times but it’s really fun talking to them and they are really nice sempai.
上國料：楽屋ですごいんですよみなさん。厳しいところもあるんですけど、普通にしゃべってるとすごく楽しいし、優しい先輩ばっかりです。

Moe: We don’t really talk about school. Since I’m short and the sempais are tall, I don’t really feel that they aren’t close to my age at all. I feel like all of them are older than me. Sasaki-san is younger than me but I still feel as if she’s older than me.
上國料：学校の話はあんまりしないですね。私背が低いので、先輩たちは背が高いので、年が近いっていうあまり感覚がなくて。全員年上っていうイメージです。佐々木さんも年下なんですけど、全然年上に見えちゃって。

-But she’s much younger than you. (laugh)
なるほど。すごい下ですけどね（笑）。

Moe: Yes but she doesn’t seem like it.
上國料：そうなんですよ、でも全然年下感がないです。

Moe: I’ve become able to talk with sempais.
上國料：結構先輩たちとしゃべれるようになりました。

-We hope you will all get along well. Can we have a message for your fans around the world?
よかったです。仲良くやって頂けるといいなと思っております。では海外のファンの方に向けてメッセージを頂けますか？

Moe: I’m the new member of ANGERME, Moe Kamikokuryo. my favorite foods are tomatoes and katsudon, and I really like cats, and I would also like to have a concert overseas.
アンジュルムの新メンバー上國料萌衣です。好きな食べ物はトマトとカツ丼で、んーっと、ネコちゃんがすごい大好きです。私は当然なんですけど、アンジュルムで海外公演をまだやったことがないので海外公演が出来るようにがんばりたいと思います。

-Do you have any countries you would like to go to?
ちなみに海外公演で行ってみたい国とかありますか？

Moe: I want to go to America since Morning Musume. had a concert in New York, I want to go there too!
上國料：えっと、アメリカに行きたいです。モーニング娘。さんがニューヨークでライブをしていたので、私も行ってみたいです！
