−When you think about Western hardcore rap, it’s more serious than anything else, and Rhymeberry’s rap leaves a fun and happy impression overall, so I think that people overseas might view it as something original.
−海外でハードなラップっていうと、どちらかというとシリアスなものが多かったりしますが、ライムベリーのラップはとにかくハッピーで楽しいという印象で、海外の人には目新しく映っているのかな、と思ったりしました。

MIRI: There’s only been a few, but recently there’s been some non-Japanese people in the audience at our concerts. By just having a good time with us, I feel like maybe we’ve been able to reach them just by the atmosphere, and that makes me happy. Because you know even people seeing us for the first time, or young children, are able to get into it and start jumping… I suppose Rhymeberry’s charm point is that anyone of any nationality or race can enjoy our music.
ほんとに数人なんですけど、最近海外のお客さんも現場に来てくれて。一緒にノッたりしてくれているから、雰囲気だけでも伝わったのかなって思ってすごく嬉しくて。やっぱり初見の人とか小さい子でも一緒に盛り上がったりジャンプしたり……人種国籍を超えて楽しめるのがライムベリーの魅力なのかな。

HIME: MIRI-chan’s got the cool and boyish part covered, because she’s always looking around and sees exactly what everyone’s doing, which makes it easy to just have fun, you know!
男の子っぽくてカッコイイところはMIRIちゃんが担当、とか見てるだけではっきり誰が何をしてるのかってのがわかるから、楽しみやすいと思いますね！

-It certainly seems like everyone has created their own persona. By the way, what kind of Western rap do you listen to?
—確かにみんなキャラ立ちしてますよね。ところで海外のラップは聞いたりするんですか？

MIRI: Pitbull! I’ve been listening to him all year. I want to try rapping in English! I wonder if I could… (laugh) But I want to challenge it!
Pitbullさん！　今年ずっと聞いてます。英語のラップはやってみたいです！　できるかな……（笑）。でも挑戦してみたいです！

HIME: My dad doesn’t really care for Japanese rap, and I hadn’t listened to anything besides Western rap, so to counter that I’ve been listening to nothing but Japanese rap. (laugh)
パパが日本語ラップがあまり好きじゃなくて海外のしか聞かなくて、その反動で私は日本語ラップばっかり聞いています（笑）。

HIKARU: I like sampling things on the iTunes store, so without really thinking about the genres, I just start adding stuff to my cart. Recently I’m into Maroon 5. They’re really awesome.
私はiTunesストアで視聴して、気に入ったらジャンルを問わずじゃんじゃんカートに入れる感じです。最近はMaroon5さんとかが好きです。ヤバいですね。

-If you could do a concert overseas, where would you like to go?
—海外でライブをするとしたら、どこに行ってみたいですか？

HIME: Hmm, I wonder where. I can’t really pick anywhere specific, but I want to be popular overseas in the future!
どこだろう。特にここっていうのはないけど、海外でもいつかはやりたい！

MIRI: I’d like to go to France or America. The one time we went to America the atmosphere was really great. When we went to see a show, we were totally impressed by how into it everyone was. (laugh) I really want to try performing somewhere like that.
フランスかアメリカに行きたいです！　アメリカは1回行ったときにノリがすごいよくて。ショーとか見に行った時に、うぇーいってすごい盛り上がってて（笑）。ああいうところでやってみたいな。

HIKARU: If there’s somewhere I want to hit, it’s also America. My first time abroad was going to Los Angeles, and it really is a stylish place isn’t it. (laughs) I want to go where stylish people live and have them come and hear us perform. I want to be said like “These guys are so good!!” by such people.
私もアメリカかな。初めての海外がロサンゼルスだったんですけど、やっぱおしゃれじゃないですか（笑）。おしゃれな街に住んでるおしゃれな人たちに聞いてもらいたい。「こいつらいいぜ!!」って言って欲しいですね。

-What’s Rhymeberry’s Next Goal?

−“アイドル”を取っても通用するようになりたい。（MIRI）

-What kind of people do you want to listen to Rhymeberry’s music?
−ライムベリーの音楽、もっとどういう人たちに聞いて欲しいって思いますか？

MIRI: Girls the same age as us. I think they’d totally get a kick out of it! When my friends listen to us they say we’re good. They really love “SUPERMCZTOKYO”. Also I want really little kids to listen to us. Today there were some small children who came and saw us. It makes me feel good. (laughs)
同世代の女の子とか。絶対ウケると思うんですよ！　友達とかも聞いたらいいって言ってくれるし。「SUPERMCZTOKYO」とかすごい好きだよって。あともうちょい小さい子とかも。今日も小さい子供が来てくれたし。いやされる（笑）

HIKARU: I want to throw a kids party!
キッズパーティーとかやってみたい！

HIME: Today there was a boy our age that came, but it’s pretty rare. He told us that he thought we were really cool, but now that you mention it, there aren’t many girls there. I mean, girls our age. But my friends always immediately remember the lyrics, and tell me that they like us. So it seems like they just don’t know who we are, and I think that if they gave us a listen they’d be into us. I hope we have more opportunities to make that happen.
今日同い年の男の子が1人だけ来てくれていたんですけど、でも本当にたまになんですよ。その人はすごいかっこよかった、って言ってくれたんですけど、やっぱり女の子があんまりいないよね。同世代の。でも私の友達とかは、すぐ歌詞覚えてくれたり、好きって言ってくれたりするんですよ。だからまだ知られていないだけで、聞いたら同世代の女の子にもハマってもらえるのかな、って。そういう機会が増えるといいな。

-Rhymeberry’s rap continues to rise in skill, but I wonder if being an idol somewhat limits what you can do. What are your thoughts about it?
−ライムベリーのラップはますます本格的になっているし、アイドルという枠だけでくくるのは違うのかなと思っています。その辺りはどう考えていますか？

MIRI: To be honest, I think the idol part has really helped us out. But I don’t think people should go easy on us just because we’re idols. We might be ‘idols’ but we want people to recognize our skills.
正直、私はアイドルっていう部分に今助けられてるなって感じがしています。アイドルだからまぁ許す、じゃないですけど。“アイドル”を取っても通用するようになりたい。

HIKARU: I feel like maybe compared to before it may seem like we dropped the idol part. But just like MIRI-chan said, being idols has really helped us. And I think there are a lot of people who see us in that way. Like, “Even though they’re idols they rap! And not only that, but they’re pretty good!” (laugh)
昔よりもアイドルっぽさは抜けてきたかなと思ってます。でもやっぱMIRIちゃんと同じで、アイドルという部分に助けられてるっていうのはある。そういうふうに見てくれる方も実際多いし。「アイドルなのにラップしてる！　しかもそれなりにちょっと上手いぞ！」っていう（笑）。

HIME: I want to gain more skill so that even rappers will take us seriously as rappers.
ラッパーさんに見てもらったときに、納得してもらえるようなスキルを身につけていきたいですね。
