The curtain closed momentarily but when it re-opened, the stage had changed to resemble the stage of a HKT48 concert with a flashing sign and the members dressed in colorful feathered outfits and bouncing along to “Suki! Suki! Skip!”.

Toyotomi and his men returned again but with penlights in their hands instead of weapons and they waved along as HKT48 launched into the classic “Aitakatta”. The members of HKT48 took full advantage of the hanamichi when it came to the part of the song where they would run back and forth to wave at the audience.

An artificial set of sakura tree branches was lowered and HKT48 performed “Sakura, Minna de Tabeta” again as flower petals fluttered from above.

While it was revealed during the play that the stage was capable of rotating and lifting to create different heights in order to change the backgrounds, the finale of the Odoru Tanuki Matsuri had the members singing “Anata ga Ite Kureta Kara” as they spun slowly around the stage and the platforms they were standing on rose and fell.

The encore call started as soon as the curtain fell and continued for several minutes. When the curtain rose, Sashihara returned to the stage on her horse and lead HKT48 through one of their most popular live songs (and coupling song for their 5th single “12 Byo”) “Rock da yo, Jinsei wa…”.

Calling the other cast members from backstage to dance along, including the horse and the cat, the atmosphere heated up as HKT48 launched into “Koi Suru Fortune Cookie”.

As they had done many times before, HKT48 closed out the show with fan favorite “Melon Juice”. While it was obviously nowhere near as wild as the audience in the MV, it was probably as wild as it could have gotten in a historic Japanese theater.

Despite any nervousness the members of HKT48 may have had before opening day, they should have nothing to worry about as “HKT48 Sashihara Rino Zachou Kouen” was one of the most impressive theater productions put on by a “48 group” that we have seen. Although it did incorporate some songs into the play, it was not a musical. On top of that, after the play was finished, HKT48 returned to the stage and performed an hour long set list! If Rino Sashihara or any of her fellow HKT48 members claim the center spot in the 2015 AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo, it may be in part to the amazing performances they gave during “HKT48 Sashihara Rino Zachou Kouen” because it was just that impressive. It may be too late to get tickets but don’t let the DVD pass you by as well!
