A premium event was organized on June 25 at the Shimokitazawa GARDEN to celebrate the release of “Eternity“, the debut album of TRUSTRICK, a new duo born from the encounter between Sayaka Kanda and the guitarist-composer Billy.

A crowd of 400 enthusiast fans came to see the very first live performance of the duo since its creation.

In the first half of the event, during a talk with Kanda and Billy, Kanda expressed how glad she was:
“At last we released our debut album. I am very happy to have the opportunity to perform in front of you all. Enjoy the show.”

Regarding the duo’s formation, she said:
“I always performed solo, so I wanted to try a different formation. I was introduced to many people by a senior musician, and although my initial thought was to form a four member’s band, I felt a real affinity with Billy’s compositions, so in the end we became a duo.”

Following the interlude, the second half was a band live accompanied by drums, bass and guitar.

The live section began with “Ever Blue“, featuring the ambient sound effects of Sayaka Kanda’s layered whispering voice. In this mystical atmosphere, the curtain rose and “If – Kimi ga Iku Sekai” was showcased. The tune has the characteristics of British rock. Guitarist Billy’s playing style is influenced by 90s’ alternative rock and is a perfect match for Sayaka Kanda’s fresh and pure sense.

Having finished the first ever public performance of their music, Sayaka Kanda addressed the fans with a brief, “Hi, we’re TRUSTRICK,” and shared how happy she was to be able to perform for them.

The show continued with the up-tempo numbers “wonder” and “kissing.” As a solo artist, Sayaka Kanda was known mainly for pop tunes, the music of TRUSTRICK opens up new frontiers of experimental music making, incorporating rock and technopop-style arrangements.

After inserting a bit of light chat, they finished off the show with two songs, the gentle ballad “Kimi ga Iru Mirai no Tameni” and the pleasant synthesizer sound and main phrase refrain of “Jealousy Jelly.”

For an encore, they performed “ATLAS,” the tune that brought TRUSTRICK together. This was the first song composed after the formation of TRUSTRICK and, full of the impetus of their early stages, is truly their starting point.

The band performed all the 6 songs of their album, from the translucent opening song If – Kimi ga yuku sekai to an encore with the album’s main song, ATLAS. Fans, hearing the glamorous, high-toned voice of Kanda, and experiencing for the first time the poppy yet powerful sounds of Toratori World, were delighted.

After the all performance were ended, Kanda excitedly opened herself at the Microphone:
“We will be touring in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka this summer!”

The tour details will be announced next month.

After the performance, Kanda opened her heart, saying, “At last I have the confidence to be able to say I have something that I can call my own music.”
The quality of TRUSTRICK’s music will attract many listeners. We will keep a watchful eye on TRUSTRICK in the future!

The venerable Japanese word "kawaii" is not the adjective "cute"; it is just a word used to communicate the state of mind of feeling love for something.
