There may not be enough words in any language to explain everything that Dempagumi.inc has packed into the MV for their new single “Otsukare Summer!” (release date: June 17)!
The title is a play on the often used Japanese phrase “otsukare-sama” (お疲れ様) which doesn’t really have an English equivalent. Maybe “good job” or “thank you” could be used but, people don’t really say that every time they finish work, or get their hair cut/styled, or if something bad happened, or as a greeting, do they? It’s one of those things said in Japan that has several meanings depending on the situation. “Otsukare Summer!” was written by Yujin Kitagawa from the pop-folk rock group Yuzu and Hyadain and arranged by Tom-H@ck (K-On); it’s the kind of summer song that only Dempagumi.inc could do! What other group could become Transformers made out of famous Tokyo landmarks? Do you recognize which ones they are? Hint: the closest stations are in the caption below.

“Otsukare Summer!” will be sold in 3 digital versions: Type-A, Type-B, Regular and 2 analog versions. Type-A includes a DVD with the MV for “Otsukare Summer!” with other contents yet to be announced and the coupling song is the Shoko-tan♥Dempagumi single “PUNCH LINE”. Type-B includes a DVD with the MV for “MUnasawagi no HImitsu”, the collaboration song with Hello Kitty, which is also the coupling song for that version. As with Type-A, other contents for the DVD are planned to be announced as the release date approaches. The regular CD-only version includes both coupling songs. The analog vinyl record and cassette tape versions have only “Otsukare Summer!” and “PUNCH LINE” but, have already been sold out in most retail outlets (besides, how many people still regularly use cassette or CD players anymore?). There is also a special Loppi・HMV version of the single which comes with a towel like the one seen in the MV which costs about the same as a towel costs at a typical idol event.
